The full title of this free one-day symposium is From Crime to Community: Emerging Issues In Crime, Reintegration, and Collaborative Partnerships. It’s being hosted by the Saskatchewan Justice Institute, and is open to the public. Featured will be a lecture by Chief Wilton Littlechild of the Ermineskin First Nation in Alberta, who is currently chairing the Truth & Reconciliation Committee exploring the tragic legacy of Residential Schools in Canada.
With the federal Conservatives hell-bent on championing a tough-on-crime agenda that has already proven to be a hugely costly flop in the United States, and Saskatchewan’s Minister of Corrections Christine Tell holding up her hands and shrugging “There’s nothing we can do” about over-crowding in jails following the recent death of an inmate in Saskatoon, this symposium should offer some valuable food for thought.
