No pick of the day today. Instead, I’m giving you a heads up about a great concert that’s happening at the University Theatre in Riddell Centre on Wednesday (July 25) by Gillian Welch and her musical partner Dave Rawlings.
As far as roots music goes, it doesn’t get much better than these dynamos. At the upcoming Americana Awards (Nashville, Sept. 12), in fact, they’re up for four awards: Album of the Year (for The Harrow & the Harvest), Artist of the Year, Duo/Group of the Year and Best Instrumentalist (Rawlings).
Currently in the midst of a pretty major tour, Welch and Rawlings are also appearing at the Odeon Theatre in Saskatoon on July 26. From there, they are off to the Calgary Folk Festival, where they’re scheduled to play a headlining gig this weekend.
Tickets for the Regina show are $29.50 and curtain is at 8 p.m. To whet your appetite, here’s video of Welch and Rawlings performing “Elvis Presley Blues”:
