With the Grey Cup set to be held in Regina in 2013, it was announced today that the Saskatchewan Roughriders, with the assistance of a low-interest loan from the Saskatchewan government, will be plowing $14 million into Mosaic Stadium.
The money will be used to add 7,000 temporary seats in the north and south end zones, along with a number of luxury corporate boxes. The new seats will have their own washroom and concession facilities, and will boost Mosaic Stadium’s capacity to 33,000. Money will also be spent on a new video scoreboard.
In 2013, the new blocks of seats will serve as a base for additional temporary seats that will increase Mosaic Stadium’s capacity to 50,000 for the Grey Cup game.
Here’s a link to a Global TV report which features a nifty three-minute plus video discussing the project.
