Here’s a link to a CBC report on Regina Qu’Appelle Conservative MP Andrew Scheer (pictured) being elected Speaker in the House of Commons. Eight candidates were in the running, and MPs used some sort of bizarro voting procedure where, after each round of balloting, the candidate with the lowest vote total was dropped from the ballot.

I’m not really sure why they deviated from first-past-the-post which, as everyone knows, is the best way to conduct a vote and elect people to represent us in government. But for some reason they did, and now Canada has its youngest Speaker in history.
