With the Dec. 13 trade of top NHL prospect Carter Ashton to the Tri-City Americans, the Regina Pats signalled their intention to bail on the 2010-11 season and stockpile some young talent in preparation for next season.

The Pats currently sit 21st in the 22-team WHL so that’s probably an astute strategy. The WHL trade deadline is Jan. 10. Will more players be on the move before then? The team is on record as saying that top scorer Jordan Weal (pictured) is untouchable. But if GM Chad Lang receives the right offer, other trades could be made.

Tonight at Brandt Centre, the Pats face off against the only team in the WHL with a worse record then them. So a Clash of the Titans this game definitely is not. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
