Wouldn’t It Be Nice?

Instead of demonizing the poor, the homeless, organized labour, post-secondary students, those who work in marginalized sectors of our economy like the arts and service industry, etc; and working diligently to eliminate their access to so-called “entitlements”; wouldn’t it be nice if politicians and their supporters on the conservative side of the ideological spectrum railed against the uber-wealthy and worked diligently to close all the loopholes they are permitted to use to shelter their money in tax havens.

According to an article by Heather Stewart in yesterday’s Guardian a study released recently by the Tax Justice Network reveals that the global economic elite shelters an astounding $21 trillion in wealth in locales like Switzerland and the Cayman Islands where they face no tax liability. Here’s a link to the story.

  1. I would love to know why countries like Switzerland, Cayman Islands, and others have these setup in the first place and why for so long now. It’s clear criminal organizations use these accounts to get around.
