Teenage Bottlerocket

Formed in Laramie, Wyoming in 2001, Teenage Bottlerocket are a punk type band fronted by twin brothers Ray and Brandon Carlisle.

Did they derive inspiration for their name from Wes Anderson’s 1996 crime flick Bottle Rocket, you ask? If I was a betting man, I’d suspect yes. But I do know that with the release of Tales From Wyoming earlier this year, they’ve got six full-length albums to their credit, and on Thursday June 11 they’ll be in town to perform a show at McNally’s Tavern.

The back-up band is called Copyright, and tickets are $12.50. To give you a sense of what to expect, here’s the video for Teenage Bottlerocket’s latest single “Haunted House”

  1. I was at the RPL screening of Bottle Rocket back in 1996 (2x) and have seen it 40x since, so your attribution got me interested, but I found no link in album or song titles to teh movie at all. Perhaps they wanted to be called simply The Bottlerockets, but that name was already taken by another established indie band.

Some potential Bottlerocket concept songs I would write:

Rocky’s Theme (He Said He Loved You)
Walk Away (Just Like You Always Do)
    Three Conditions
Doesn’t Sound That Bad in Spanish (Inez’s Song)
    It’s a Front
    You Took ‘Em? (Anthony’s Song)
    Exhaustion (Grace’s Song)
None of This Looks Good, None of this Looks Good At All
The Futureman (What the Fuck is This?)
    Good Cardiovascular
Did You Ever Have a Touch to Lose?
    Mr. Henry
    Let’s Get Lucky
Ran Away from Home (Jackson’s Theme)
    Cuz I’m Fucking Innocent
    We Did It, Tho, Eh?
