Sssummer! (Updated!)

I made a new friend down by Wascana lake this morning. She was very nervous but eventually settled down into a state of limp noodledom. Have I ever mentioned how much I love urban wildlife? Deer, coyotes, hares, owls, crows, ground squirrels and sssnakes. I love ’em all. (Except wasps. Wasps are vicious mechanisms of calibrated hate.)

Couple more pics by genius photographer Darrol Hofmeister after the jump! And an update: you can read much more about our little adventure on the Saskatchewan Science Centre’s blog (thanks, Collette!).

  1. Lovely creature; haven’t seen one on the wild or near-wild in ages.
The trouble with wasps is that, unlike bees, they can sting multiple times and it doesn’t wound them mortally.

  2. The bigger trouble with wasps are their black little hearts and evil little souls. Wait, they don’t have souls. Just malice.

  3. Ever get stung by a whole hive? I have. Motherfuckers. I was also bitten by wasps, if you can believe it. I was being investigated by a couple and I froze in fear (after the whole hive incident) and more came along and they goddamned started eating the skin on my toes. How’s that for a nightmarish childhood experience?

    Snakes I adore.
