Rosie’s Top Six

1 MEN AT WORK First photos of the Fukushima Fifty at work – the ones who stand between Japan and a even worse nuclear accident than the one they’re already having (Daily Mail). Must be hard to get inside a radiation suit when you have brass ball the size of church bells …

2 NOW THEY TELL US It took 10 years and a Democratic Party president in the White House in order for Fox News to learn that wars can be expensive. (Fox)

3 THE REAL BATTLEGROUND Susan Delacourt illustrates that there may be a lot of political hay to be made if some political party finds a way to re-engaging Canadian voters. (Toronto Star)

4 MEDITERRANEAN COUNTRY ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE No, it’s not the one everybody’s bombing. (The Guardian). Since there’s no oil there, who cares?

5 DUNNO HOW CARLE STEELE ET AL FEEL ABOUT BEING CALLED A GRIZZLED RETIRED GENERAL BUT IT’S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS, I GUESS It will be kind of hard to think about sex the same way again after reading this (courtesy Slog) Totally NSFW

6 COME BACK GERRY KROCHAK ALL IS FORGIVEN The Leader-Post’s big news from the Regina Folk Festival announcement yesterday is that k.d. lang will be one of the headliners – an artist who’s pretty much content to be residing in the ‘where are they now’ file. The news that K.T. Tunstall is also going to be on the bill gets buried. And when you see this video, you’ll see why she’s going to be the hit of the festival …

  1. Are you really repping for “Music from the Soundtrack of Grey’s Anatomy, Season 2″/John Mayer with better hair over someone with a) a massive body of challenging work b)one of the best voices to ever come out of Canada c) a new album out on one of the most uncompromosing labels still running d) a penchant for singing barefoot? I mean, if that’s what you’re doing, okay, sure.

  2. kd lang, KT Tunstall, Hawksley Workman, and yes, even Fred Penner.

RFF 2011 has clearly outdone themselves yet again with this phenomenal lineup. Not to mention the less-known-names (Coeur de Pirate, anyone?) that always come in unknown and, in the end, prove to be perfect little musical treasures that the audience has had the privilege of uncovering.

    Bottom line? I.AM.SO.EXCITED. !!!!

  3. This is tangentially related to the nuclear plant news – xkcd has compiled a nifty chart showing the levels of radiation you are exposed to throughut your life, compared with the levels recorded around the plant. It’s apparent (if the chart is accurate) that the news media is irresponsibly blowing this out of proportion.

  4. ‘Must be hard to get inside a radiation suit when you have brass ball the size of church bells’

Side effects from the radiation exposure, no doubt.

j/k…these guys are hardcore. Japanese pop songs will be written for them.

(Looking forward to Dan Mangan at RFF)

  5. No one on the bill really leaps out at me like past years (Steve Earle, Broken Social Scene, New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara, etc) but I think it’s a pretty solid lineup overall. I saw k.d. lang a while ago and she put on a helluva show. KT Tunstall should be pretty cool. And Fred F*cking Penner! Awesome! It should definitely be another good time this year. I keep hoping for Tom Waits. Maybe some day…

  6. a real disappontment…kdlang…oh maybe she will do hallejiuah AGAIN…taj mahal zzzzzzzz

where is joel plaskett, Yukon Blonde, wintersleep, Rah Rah???
