Plaza Poopers

Yesterday marked the first day of the outdoor Regina Farmers’ Market. The weather was tolerable, and while the vendors weren’t overflowing with fresh produce like they will be a few months from now, it was nice to some activity on the up-to-now mostly deserted City Square plaza.

Last night, the plaza was apparently again the site of some fervent activity. Unfortunately, it was of the criminal variety. You can read more about it in this CBC report.

  1. The city should’ve had security or camera surveillance on such a huge and expensive new infrastructure development.

  2. Regina City Police issued this press release today:

The Regina Police Service is asking for information from the public to help in solving a case of mischief at the City’s downtown Plaza.

Sometime between Saturday evening, May 5th, and Sunday afternoon, May 6th, unknown suspects dislodged and toppled six bollards (thick, concrete posts) on the City Plaza. The exact cost of the damage is not known at this time, but it’s estimated to be between five and ten-thousand dollars. The damage was reported by City officials to police this morning.

The Regina Police Service is asking anyone who has information on this crime, or who noted suspicious activity on the City Plaza, on Saturday evening or early Sunday morning to contact police at 777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

  3. Typically this could be put down to random acts of senseless violence, but those things are big and heavy, which suggest pre-meditation. Someone will spill, they always dew.

  4. After seeing The Avengers last night, Steve thinks The Incredible Hulk may have been involved.

  5. Or maybe Hercules and his little manfriend minotaur, as depicted in Episode 74, “Hercules Loses His Memory”

  6. Actually, Steve thinks if it WERE the Hulk there’d be just a little bit more damage.

  7. And I just realized that Talbot has confused minotaurs (bull men) and centaurs (horse men). Newton was CLEARLY a centaur. NOT a minotaur. SHEESH.

(And Toot was a little wee satyr!)
