Pick of the Day (Tomorrow Edition): The Master

Cheeky move by the RPL Theatre to screen The Master over the holidays. It’s directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and concerns a disaffected WWII naval vet played by Joaquin Phoenix who is looking for some direction in his life. By happenstance, he meets a charismatic man (Philip Seymour Hoffman) who has developed a wack philosophy mixing sci-fi mythology and Freudian psychology¬†called “The Cause” that can be regarded as a stand-in for Scientology with Hoffman playing the L. Ron Hubbard role.

The Master ¬†screens Thursday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Friday and Sunday at 9 p.m. Here’s the trailer:

Greg Beatty is a crime-fighting shapeshifter who hatched from a mutagenic egg many decades ago. He likes sunny days, puppies and antique shoes. His favourite colour is not visible to your inferior human eyes. He refuses to write a bio for this website and if that means Whitworth writes one for him, so be it.
