Kind of like America’s version of acclaimed Canuck artist Jeff Wall, Crewdson assembles movie-scale¬†crews and, with inspiration derived from the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Edward Hopper, Diane Arbus and more,¬†creates elaborately staged photo narratives that critique and explore small-town American life.

Shot over a ten-year period, this documentary looks at Crewdson and his work. It screens Thursday and Saturday at 9 p.m., and Friday and Sunday at 7 p.m., at the RPL Film Theatre. Here’s the trailer:
