Just a few weeks after his daughters Carnie and Wendy were in town to perform at Casino Regina with Chynna Phillips, the legendary leader of the Beach Boys Brian Wilson hits town tomorrow to perform at Conexus Arts Centre at 7:30 p.m.

It’s been a long road back for Wilson, who spent close to three decades battling health issues.  In 2004, he released the concept album Smile —  a project he originally began work on in 1966. Inspiration for the double album came from American history, with songs tied to the westward expansion of the country from Plymouth Rock in the 17th century to the admittance of Hawaii into the union as the 50th state in the late 1950s.

Last August, Wilson released Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin which consists of covers of classic Gershwin songs like “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Summertime”, along with two songs that George Gershwin left unfinished at his death. It debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Jazz Chart, and at tomorrow night’s show Wilson will perform songs from it.

I believe he’ll also be doing songs from his Beach Boys catalogue. To give you a taste, here’s video of a 2006 performance of “California Girls”
