The Queen City Ex starts today, which means that the first grandstand will take place tonight. The shows are held in Confederation Park just east of Brandt Centre. When I was a kid, Confederation Park used to have a spring-thru-fall display of native and semi-exotic birds, including a male peacock. I lived a few blocks away (1234 Queen St, to be precise) and used to visit the park quite often. As a kid, the birds were a source of fascination for me. But the cages they were housed in were pretty spartan, so I’m glad that the plug on that exhibit got pulled years ago.
Taking the stage tonight at Confederation Park is the pop-punk band Marianas Trench. There’s an opening act (identity yet unknown) at 7 p.m., and the headliners take the stage at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, metal-meisters Great White (pictured) are playing with Warrant and Slaughter. Friday, it’s Dierks Bentley with guests t.b.a. Saturday, it’s April Wine with Queen City Kids. On Sunday, Down With Webster will close out the Ex with guests t.b.a.
All shows are free with gate admission.
