I don’t know the exact date when this photo was taken, but if I was a betting man I’d say it was in the mid-’80s. Having made the transition from straight ahead rock to heavy metal, Kick Axe was in their prime then. Based in Vancouver, the quartet, who were originally from Regina, made a decent ripple on the Canadian, and even International, music scene.
The band, in some incarnation involving original members, is still active. Tonight, along with another legendary Canadian metal band (Helix), they’re playing a show at Casino Regina at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $30, $35. And to give you a taste, here’s video of Kick Axe performing “Hunger” at a show in Winnipeg in 2010.
Also on tonight is a show at Creative City Centre (1843 Hamilton St.) that’s billed at Saskia & Darrell. It’s in the vein of roots/folk, and doors are at 7:30 p.m., with tickets set at $10. You can read more here. And at O’Hanlon’s Pub, local funk rockers The Nancy Ray-Guns are playing with Evan Chambers & the Third Alarm backing them up.
Hey that’s Danny Nargang on vocals, with no guitar in his hand!
I remember mid-80s elementary school rumours about this barely known metal act that they hailed from Regina, and what an amazing deal that a band from Regina made it out Bart’s and Good Time Charlie’s.
Helix isn’t the same band without Doctor Doerner, in my opinion, anyway.
Both bands brought it tonight. Danny does a great job fronting Kick Axe, who look like their having a lot of fun these days, and Brian Vollmer can still sing his ass off for Helix. Great show. Gimme and ‘R’!
“Anonymous,” huh? For all I know, you’re Danny Nargang.
Good one Kent !!

Gimme an O
R … O … N
RON!!
Danny went to my high school, he was 4-5 years older, he wore Letterman sweaters and Buddy Holly glasses.
Kidding. I thought he was Axel Rose, Jr.

Hi Chrissy.

Axel Rose was invented long after Kick Axe
started playin.
Yer thinking of Colin James.
Hey I was just pointing out that it’s weird to see him without a guitar.
