The brainchild of Don Cowie, this festival’s been going on since 2006. It started at the Exchange, and this year is being held at Artesian on 13th. I don’t know if it has a firm mission statement. But if you visit the website www.cowrocks.com you’ll learn that the festival typically involves local musicians joining forces with each other in different combinations to perform a mix of original and cover tunes.
MC’d by Richie Wade-Cummings, the 2011 festival features two slates of performers: from 8-9:30 p.m. Wolf Hall, Down Beat, Sarah Schill, Shane Reoch and The Backhomes will play. Then from 9:30-11 p.m. it’s Brittany Soriano, Tahnis Cunningham/Ray Bell, Spout/Bec and The Underground Collective.
Tickets are $10 at the door.
Don Cowie here,
I read your Pick of the Day and enjoyed it. In response to you “don’t know if it has firm mission statement”, I’ve re-written the home page and the about page at http://www.cowrocks.com
We had a fabulous festival this year at our new venue at the Artesian on 13th, raised over $1000 for the Regina Food Bank, and have already booked February 19th, 2012 at the Artesian for the 7th Annual Cowrocks Music Festival. 83 photos from last Sunday’s festival are up on the Cowrocks website, as well as on the Cowrocks Venue Facebook page.
Thanks Gregory,
Don
