Pedestrian Observation

Albert & Sask Dr.I didn’t make the trek over to Mosaic Stadium last evening to see the Paul McCartney concert. But I was out and about in that corner of downtown around the time the concert was starting. I took the above snap (click to embiggen) facing west on Saskatchewan Drive near Albert St. The sidewalk definitely is a candidate for worst sidewalk in Regina.

Couple the crap sidewalk with two lanes of traffic whizzing past on Sask. Drive with nothing more than a crumbling curb for protection and pedestrians definitely have a harrowing experience on their hands. Try it some time if you like.

  1. I think the intersection of Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street is the ugliest intersection I have ever seen. I am actually ashamed that visitors to Regina will probably run across it, as it is on a main thoroughfare. There are crumbling sidewalks; non-existent medians; rusty light poles; etc etc. Like Greg did, go and stand there, and have a look. Could not the city designate certain areas as high traffic and ensure that they are pretty for visitors to our city?

  2. Heh, the last bad sidewalk you pointed out (SW corner of Ham and 12) is currently being fixed.

  3. There will be a slight delay in repair work as the city had an emergency need to spend $350,000 sending out dishonest robocalls.

  4. Brad: If it’s true they’re fixing that corner that’ll blow my mind. It’s been a disaster for as long as we’ve lived here.
