This photo was taken at the APEC Summit in Honolulu, Hawaii and depicts the P.M. shooting the breeze with U.S. President Barack Obama on the way to a tete-a-tete where the two undoubtedly discussed matters of grave import. APEC, for those who aren’t sure, is an acronym for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, which is a forum where 21 Pacific Rim nations meet regularly to discuss trade and other economic issues in the region.

Some members of the group have less than sterling human rights records, so the gatherings sometimes draw protesters. There can also be some acrimonious discussions. This year, for example, Obama took Chinese president Hu Jintao to task for allegedly undervaluing the yuan on world markets to bolster Chinese exports into the U.S. and preserve its massive trade surplus.

When Harper and Obama met, I imagine they had some touchy discussions too related to subjects like free trade, security, Israel and other global hotspots, the NBA strike and … well, I’ll leave the rest to you in the 13th edition of the PMO Photo Op Caption Contest
