Gunman Shoots Up Right-Wing Christian Group’s Office, First Time For Everything I Guess

I just heard that someone shot up an office of the conservative Family Research Council this morning. A security guard was wounded. From The Washington Post:

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the shooter walked into the lobby of the building at about 10:45 and was confronted by the security guard as if the guard were asking him where he was going. The man then took out a gun and opened fire on the guard, Lanier said. The guard and others wrestled the man to the ground, disarmed him and waited for police, she said. The guard was then taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, the chief said. FBI officials said the guard was shot in the arm.

The shooting sounds politically motivated, too. From the same Post story:

The shooter is in FBI custody and has not yet been charged, authorities said. A law enforcement official said at one point in the scuffle, the shooter expressed views that differed from those of the Family Research Council. The official also said the shooter was carrying a bag that had a Chick-Fil-A bag inside. Chick-Fil-A’s chief executive has expressed similar views against same-sex marriage as the Research Council.

More here. The Family Research Council is a vile organization that fights to keep same-sex marriage illegal, strip women of the right to make their own decisions for their own damn bodies and all that usual asshole right-wing so-called “Christian” stuff. I’m not surprised someone wanted to shoot up their office though I wish this suspect hadn’t. Shooting up offices is not going to solve the problem of conservative Christian groups trying to force their ridiculous fake values on everyone. Activism, reason, humour and good old-fashioned ridicule and mockery are good weapons that will work against right-wing extremists. Guns are not.

  1. The vile in North America is the lefties.
Imagine defending life instead of the murderous scum who pretend its OK to take a human life because they don’t have a voice of there own yet.

  2. 95% of these nuts that go off on an insane shooting spree usually have a tie to some form of left wing idealism.

  3. “Damn bodies”????? Is that a Freudian slip indicating exactly what it is your beliefs are really about?

Respect for the gift of life. Try believing in that for a while.

  4. So everyone who is against abortion or same-sex marriage is vile?

It appears that in Stephen Whitworth’s world, anyone who doesn’t share his leftarded, progressive view or dares to be openly Christian, should be shouted down and shamed for not sharing in his perceived moral superiority.

If you want to really know who is “forcing their ridiculous fake values on everyone”, then maybe you should look in mirror.

  5. Hey, you want to read all about left wing violence?

    Google the following names:

    Adolf Hitler
    Josef Stalin
    Mao Zedong
    Pol Pot
    Robert Mugabe
    Che Guevara

I’m sure you’ll find load of stories about gun control and ideology driven mad men who only “meant well” as all you leftards claim over and over.

The road to HELL is paved with good Leftist intentions.

  6. FREE, Warren Z, james, Pat, Doug, report to reeducation camp immediately.

The above comments are all a figment of your imagination. They do not exist.

If you believe otherwise, your IP address has been recorded and sent to Janet Napolitano.

  7. “Activism, reason, humour and good old-fashioned ridicule and mockery are good weapons … Guns are not.”

True, but only because you lefties couldn’t hit a barn from the inside. Plus, if you little boys start expressing your hatred of Conservatives violently instead of verbally, there’s a possibility you might piss us off.

My advice, stick with the name calling. Less risky.

  8. Why are Christian values fake and if that is so are Moslemic values fake along with Bhuddist etc? A thoughtful response would be nice. David

  9. This is a very racist posting: to describe Shikhs and Muslems who fight to keep same-sex marriage illegal, strip women of the right to make their own decisions for their own damn bodies and all that usual asshole right-wing so-called “Muslem” and “Shihk” stuff as ‘vile’ is very racist. Please stop your racism, prariedogmag.

  10. classic left-winger adolf hitler brought up in above comments. real idol of the left, that one

  11. But apparently according to CBC and CNN, they have NO idea why he did this, except for the obvious reference he made to how he hated their policies – but duh! I guess that is too complex for the mega-minds in the MSM to understand.

The only time I read Prairie Dog is when it is left on a restaurant table from the last patron – and only then if I’m in need of a good laugh. The only way it continues to exist is from the number of NDP MPs/MLAs that advertise in it.

  12. Typical hate filled liberal bigoted and narrow minded nonsense.
No tolerance for anyone else’s views.

  13. BTW, how is this rag doing now that you don’t have the government monopolies like SGI throwing you our tax dollars through advertising?

  14. Christian groups trying to force their ridiculous fake values on everyone

One logical error and two misrepresentations in that phrase.

The logical error is calling the values of Christians “fake”. If Christians didn’t really believe their values, then why would they oppose those who are attempting to impose a different set of values on society?

Correction of first misrep: Christians aren’t the only people who oppose the gay agenda.

Correction of the second misrep: Christians are attempting to preserve the status quo value system. It is gays who are attempting to push their values onto the rest of society. Gay activists are the political aggressors in this fight.

  15. @JC

Jonah Goldberg makes a good case in Liberal Fascism that fascists, including Adolf Hitler, are a product of the left. Naturally, lefties aren’t too happy to claim Hitler as one of their own.

  16. Wow, almost everyone who left a comment is a goofball. It’s almost like we’ve had 765 visits by 3:03 p.m. today by Small Dead Animals readers*.

I’d be upset but the views and cognitive peccadillos of you clowns aren’t representative of normal people’s beliefs and attitudes. You know it, I know it and the son- and daughter in-laws who dread holiday visits with you definitely know it.

You all have the right to oppose same sex marriage and abortion. Weird and kinda stupid, but legal. No one’s trying to outlaw your moronic opinions based on your fear and cowardice, delusions and paranoia, sexual repression and xenophobia. But trying to enforce those views on normal people is 1.) vile 2.) evil 3.) idiotic and 4.) hilarious.

Extremists suck and in North America today most extremists are social conservatives who support right-wing economics. The commentators here are a good example of this sad and ugly reality.

By the way, Jesus was a socialist and you all smell like farts.

*These are the actual numbers and yes, they actually all visitors from Small Dead Animals. Thanks for the traffic, Kate!

  17. Liberalism is a disease of the heart and mind. It is a dangerous and failed ideology that rewards laziness and incompetence, but punishes hard work and success. It is a severely skewed concept of fairness that takes from one and gives to another whether deserving or not. It favors special interest groups over individual liberty. It is a system of entitlements that results in supply causing demand instead of the opposite. It is fiscally reckless and morally misdirected. It says it promotes tolerance and equality, but the result is racism and brute force. It is a false belief that government can socially engineer a utopia. It is a cancer that spreads if left unchecked.

  18. This is too much fun.

I’m going to hold up both hands and count the number of full-formed, cogent sentences on these comments.

  19. Folks, anyone sense the irony of people invading the comment sections of an online newspaper and howling at length about how hard they work and how “liburuls” steal all that hard earned money… Yet the comments are always date-stamped on weekday afternoons? Please, Small Dead Animals readers, please get a job. We’re all pulling for you.

  20. What a bunch of nutter butters! I hate when “the right” (or rather, the super rude extreme right) come out of the wood work and try to cobble valid arguments. Nonsense! Go to bed! And support health care if you’e going to demand that women have babies and not abortions! And go back to ranting on that wonky website – you’re not winning any favour or changing any minds here!

  21. “Nutter butters’ Carline?
Doesn’t sound very tolerant somehow… sounds almost rude….

And we’re well aware that it’s impossible to change the mind of brainwashed liberals.

Oh dear I am so sorry you still need your fingers in order to count. My condolences on your state run education

  23. Thanks for the comment, David (@10). I guess I can give you a (grumble, gripe) serious reply.

I didn’t say Christian values were fake. There are tons of Christians whose values aren’t fake. There are tons of terrific Christians, and more generally, terrific people of faith.

I said the FRC’s values are fake.

But it’s an ambiguous statement. For you, David, I’ll clarify it.

There’s a lot of tragedy and suffering in the world: war, hunger, homelessness, poverty etc. And there are millions of people who could use help from good Christians. My problem with groups like the Family Research Council is their crummy priorities: instead of feeding the hungry, clothing the poor and generally working to ease the world’s suffering they choose to fight against birth control, sex education, abortion, same-sex marriage, the American Civil Liberties Union and even social programs like Barack Obama’s (tepid) health care reform.

Those are absurd priorities and consequently, ridiculous “values”.

That’s why I call them fake–not because the people who profess them don’t actually hold them but because THEY’RE NOT VALUES. They’re problems.

I hope that clears things up, because I’m not writing any more boring comments on this post.

  24. “First Time For Everything I Guess”

Odd thing to say considering many of your views overlap with Jared Lee Loughner.

  25. If anybody is vile, it’s the gays who want to force everyone to believe what they do. The human race will never accept that you can marry, let alone adopt children. You might have some success forcing people in the western world to agree with you but you will never be truly accepted. Even people who once sympathized with you are sick of your never-ending demands. Understand that Stephen, you will always be on the outside. Enjoy your moment in the sun.

  26. Hahaha! Steve just trolled the trolls.

Thanks for dropping by smalldeadanimals readers and reminding all the not wack-a-loon people why Sask needs its electoral boundaries redrawn.

    Meta-irony FTW!

  27. Those people in this demographic who oppose pregnancy termination and birth control in North America just will not, it seems, disclose, spew forth or confess the real reason they are on it. And, that is that they are fearful of there being ‘not enough white babies born’ to balance the influx of immigrants who are not white. White women don’t want to expose their children to this stupid and corrupt world and many abort whereas women of colour don’t see it that way or have no other option.

  28. Orphelia,

Your comments are so very strange. And certainly there are racist white women out there who “…don’t want to expose their children to this stupid and corrupt world.”

However, as a young white woman of baby making age, I plan on either adopting a child of a different ethnicity and/or having children with a man of a different ethnicity because we all know that people with a heritage of mixed ethnicity are THE most beautiful people in the world. Beauty doesn’t count for all, but in the case of our ever globalized world, it makes sense to share in multiple traditions, languages and yes, appearance, of your parents.
Also, among young women these days, the idea of having of having beautiful mixed babies is a very popular one!

  29. I see Stevie finally put in an appearance.

The problem Stevie is that we all kind of doubt your veracity. Quote: “I’m not surprised someone wanted to shoot up their office though I wish this suspect hadn’t.”

See, given the tirade about fake values and vileness, we all know damn well that your immediate reaction to this event was “Yeah baby!” with fist pump. Pretty much the same as people who hand out sweets at 9/11 celebrations.

Personally, my first reaction was the same as for the last two mass shootings this summer. It makes me angry. Another nut shoots up another government enforced gun-free zone.

Quote: “No one’s trying to outlaw your moronic opinions based on your fear and cowardice, delusions and paranoia, sexual repression and xenophobia.”

Well we know THAT ain’t true, don’t we? There’s a whole government department that does nothing but outlaw opinions and speech. And weren’t the lamentations long and loud when those dastardly CPC neocons finally shut that freakshow down.

Furthermore Stevie, many, many organizations from your side of the political spectrum make all kinds of lists of blogs, people and companies whose “fear and cowardice, delusions and paranoia, sexual repression and xenophobia” its appropriate and laudable to hate.

I remind you of the uproar created by your boys in the media over the Gabriel Giffords shooting, wherein Sarah Palin was blamed for the shooter’s choice of target because her web site had a map with “cross hairs” on it. Please compare and contrast that map graphic with the one posted by the Southern Poverty Law Center, featuring Family Research Council dead in the very explicit cross hairs of a graduated sniper sight.

What I take from all of that media noise, including your blog here, is that I’m considered illegitimate and dangerous by important people, and that I better shut up before some official comes and shuts me up.

Message long since received, Stevie. I’m still here, despite your “Activism, reason, humour and good old-fashioned ridicule and mockery”. I take it as evidence I’m getting the job done when people like yourself mock me for the things I say. What bothers me is guys shooting up the offices of people who refuse to do what you want. I’m not willing to put up with that in my society.

I suggest to you that you and your little friends will be well advised to spend a LOT more time preaching non-violence, and a lot less time making up lists of people its ok to hate. You want to live in a peaceful, safe society, maybe you should damn well work for it a bit like the rest of us.

By the way. The man who got shot was the building manager, Mr. Leo Johnson. He got shot in the arm someplace with a 9mm pistol. He then, having just been shot, dumped the shooter, Floyd Lee Corkin, on his ass and took the gun off him. Most important for -you- to note, Mr. Johnson did not take that gun and shoot his helpless assailant, even though Corkin was certainly planning on doing that to Johnson and everybody else in the building.

My beliefs and morality produce guys like Mr. Johnson. Yours produce the likes of Floyd Lee Corkin. I suggest you think about that some.

  30. RE #27

    Dearest Stan,

My comment about nutter butters referred to the extreme HATEFUL right as I clearly pointed out. Is that you? Because responding to my comment and taking it personally means you identify as someone who recognizes themselves as hateful. Good for you!

  31. Thank you Mr. Phantom for revealing yourself. You make a leap of judgement suggesting Stevie was even slightly satisfied that someone got shot – that is sad. You don’t know him and you never will. Know this – his first reaction was almost certainly “that’s awful” although it likely came out more in the form, “Oh shit. What is wrong with these fucking people”. People who’s morals take them to violence are ill. Everybody knows it.

It’s interesting that you go on at great length about politics. Here’s a thought for you – if you hate gays don’t participate in politics because the HUUUUUUGE majority of people in the world don’t want your opinion. I’m talking HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE majority. To all the gay haters posting here and elsewhere, the HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE majority of citizens of the world find you disgusting and despicable. If it makes you feel better, a lot of folks likely pity you too. You need to come to terms with the fact that 9 out of 10 people that you work with, play with and spend vacation with think you’re a fucking dunce. The other one out of 10 is probably a fucking dunce.Once you accept that the HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE majority of people in the world can look beyond fairy tale belief systems and make reasonable, compassionate and proper decisions about what is right and wrong – you will be well on your way.

To summarize, you are a poopy-pants dumbhead.

I hope you stub your toe today.

  32. Toontown prat said: “I hope you stub your toe today.”

Yes, I know. Hence my previous comment.

You idiots keep wishing harm on people like me for even the mildest disagreements. We’d be fools not to take you at your word, don’t you think?

  33. Bwaaaahahaaaa. Phantom….I promise you this…the next time you stub your toe, you will think of this blog. And you will know that you have been punished for your evil thoughts. That’s right Phantom – an omnipotent entity is watching your every move. (Also, masturbating makes you go blind)

  34. Ahhhh Carline, thanks for clearing that up.
So do you reserve the same bile for extreme HATEFUL left?
You know, the ones who support late term abortion laws, like we have in Canada?
Or is anyone on the right who opposes late term abortions extreme in your world?
Or are people who shoot up family values centers considered extreme in your world?

You seem to be hung up on abortion since it was one of the things you mentioned, so please explain who is extreme, the ones who support killing viable fetuses or the ones who oppose that?

You are aware of the abortion laws in Canada, aren’t you?
