Bats And Snakes! In Trouble! Nooooo!

Missed this one yesterday and we can’t have that. The people in charge of this stuff say that several species of Canadian bats and snakes are threatened, which sucks both for them and for those of us who LIKE bats and snakes (and there are more of us than some would think–it’s not just me, Carle, Barb Saylor and the U of R’s Mark Brigham). Coincidentally, I was Googling Saskatchewan snakes on Monday to find out how the Eastern yellow bellied racer is doing (no, really, I was), and I learned that the rare animal was hurt by flooding in 2011. Ahhhhh!

Here’s a great video of an adorable yellow bellied racer. Alas, this guy’s in California. But wait! There’s also a really good, embedding disabled short video on specifically Saskatchewan snakes here. Hooray!
