Anybody Want To Buy An Office Tower?

Here’s a link to a tender that was posted on the Government of Saskatchewan website today stating that SGI was in the market to unload a 184,000 sq. ft. high rise office tower in Regina (presumably the one pictured at left) with further plans to move into a new 210,000 sq. ft office building.

If you recall a few years ago, we had a horrendous windstorm one afternoon that necessitated the evacuation of the SGI tower. It was said at the time, I think, that the building needed some significant structural upgrades. So you might be able to get it for a bargain price.

As for where SGI might be relocating to, for now that remains a mystery. There was talk a couple of years ago about a big-ass office building at the corner of Rose and 12th Ave (currently the site of a surface parking lot). I don’t know what the status of that project is, or if it’s related in any way to SGI.

  1. Everyone could move out of Regina right now, start a new life, and no one would ever miss it. This is your window.

  2. That’s exactly how I feel. It’s like the rapture, only it it’s all the clever creative people who will get hoovered up. Who will be left?Who cares?

  3. So this is someone’s vision of less gov’t?

It looks like SGIO will never see any competition here.

  4. @2 Somehow I knew that’s how you’d feel, yet I’ve never even met you…

Every so often you feel that ‘moment’. The last tyme I felt it, it was in 2005.

The sad thing is, I’m getting so old, I’ve started to forget the familiar faces I no longer see. And when I see a familiar face returned, it’s almost a shock, cuz no one I know works in oil, gas, or mining, so what could they possibly be coming for? (Tho I did run into one long-lost chum recently; it was a very pleasant surprise.)
