This Florida-based punk band has been around since 1997. They’ve enjoyed a solid career so far, but have received renewed attention since the release of their sixth album Transgender Dysphoria Blues in January. It’s a concept album that recounts the story of a transgender prostitute. While not autobiographical, the writing and recording of the album did coincide with a process the band’s front person Laura Jane Grace (born Thomas James Gabel) went through where they transitioned from male to female after experiencing gender dysphoria since childhood.
In our January 23 issue James Brotheridge gave Transgender Dysphoria Blues a four dog out of five rating. On Sunday, Against Me! are in town to play a show at the Exchange. Sharing the bill will be Laura Stevenson & the Cans and Cheap Girls.
