with Tayler Tluchak
Tayler grew up in Gronlid in east-central Saskatchewan. While she comes from a musical family, she didn’t start singing herself until a few years ago. She’s since released two singles: “Wasn’t You I Missed” and “Crushin’ on You”. Here are six songs Tayler considers favourites. /Gregory Beatty
“Man, I Feel Like a Woman”
Shania Twain / Come On Over (1997)
Shania is an artist I’ve always looked up to and whenever her songs come on, you can guarantee I’ll be the first one dancing and singing my heart out.
“I Hope You Dance”
Lee Ann Womack / I Hope You Dance (2002)
I remember driving up to the lake in my dad’s 1991 Chevrolet truck when I was a kid. Dad used to be a drummer in his family band, and would always crank the music up real loud and tap to the beat on the steering wheel. We would listen to this song a lot, and to this day the lyrics make me tear up and think about how lucky I am to have a family that’s always helped me “dance”.
“Tennessee Waltz”
Pee Wee King (1948)
My Grandpa Tluchak had the most beautiful sounding whistle — it was so peaceful and entertaining. Grandpa passed away a few years ago, and whenever I play a song that he loved I can still hear that beautiful whistle.
“Last Friday Night”
Katy Perry / Teenage Dream (2010)
This has been my favorite song for years now, and always will be because it’s so fun and gets me in a good mood. When I hear it I immediately crank the stereo up and start to sing and dance.
“Locked Away”
Jason Derulo (2015)
When I met my fiancé Dustin four summers ago, this song was on repeat all day, every day in my house. Now, every time I hear it I think of the fun times and memories that we made. Although those first years of dating have come and gone, we now have forever together to create new ones and I couldn’t be more grateful.
“In Between”
Kelsea Ballerini / Unapologetically (2017)
This song describes something I feel every day — not knowing if I want to be young and naive to life’s experiences, or if I want to grow up and be an adult. So I feel like I’m stuck “in between”. But I’ve realized one thing — if I sit back and enjoy the moment, life is actually pretty amazing just how it is.
