Christopher Nolan has a new movie coming soon. Nobody knows what it’s called or what it’s about but we do have a release date: July 17, 2020. Personally I’m hoping the actual title will be “Untitled Christopher Nolan Project”. I see the “Untitled So-And-So” placeholder title all the time on IMDb but it’s never a movie’s actual name. But it’s an entertaining name. Come on Nolan, make me happy. Just this once.
Deadpool 2 4-Ever
It’s already had two theatrical releases, but Fox is giving Deadpool 2 its third cinematic run — this time in China.
You probably recall that the once R-rated movie was re-cut to a PG-13 version and rereleased in theatres at Christmas as Once Upon a Deadpool. That version’s now out on DVD and Blu-ray, but the Deadfoolery doesn’t stop there — China has approved the PG-13 cut for its cinemas after banning the original, R-rated version last summer. The film’s title is now Deadpool 2: I Love My Family. Yup! Deadpool 2: I Love My Family. Stupid title, but it opened in the number one spot at the Chinese box office, making Fox even more money.
I think it’s pretty disturbing that a studio can get away with recutting one film and releasing what is essentially the same movie over and over again with different titles.
I hope this doesn’t become a trend. But it probably will.

HNUGGET!!! Netflix has joined the Motion Picture Association of America, which I guess means it’s now one of the big film studios. Which makes sense when you see the company got 15 Oscar nominations this year for various films it produced. I assume it’s only a matter of time before Amazon joins the MPAA. The landscape of film production sure is changing.

HNUGGET!!! With the massive success of Aquaman — which is now the highest grossing DC movie ever — it seems Warner has decided to stop focusing on the whole “shared DC cinematic universe” they’ve been trying to create to compete with Marvel (with pretty dismal results).
“We all feel like we’ve turned a corner now,” said Warner Chairman Toby Emmerich to, um, well, I read it somewhere on the Internet. “We’re playing by the DC playbook, which is very different than the Marvel playbook. We are far less focused on a shared universe. We take it one movie at a time. Each movie is its own equation and own creative entity. If you had to say one thing about us, it’s that it always has to be about the directors.”
Wheee! This is a good thing. Wonder Woman and Aquaman have been DC’s best and most successful films so far, while the rest have been, well degrees of crap. It will be interesting to see how Shazam and The Joker turn out later this year.
