The Montreal band Arcade Fire was formed in 2001. Albums such as Funeral (2004) and Neon Bible (2007) brought them to the attention of savvy music fans, but it wasn’t until their big Grammy win for The Suburbs (2010) that they really shot to public prominence.
Fronted by Win Butler and Regine Chassagne, Arcade Fire followed up The Suburbs with Reflektor in 2013. It was a double album, and some critics suggested it was a little overly ambitious and lacked the focus of their earlier work. Nonetheless, it did pick up two JUNO Awards and was short-listed for the 2014 Polaris Prize.
The Reflektor Tapes is a documentary recounting the recording of the album, which involved stints in Montreal, Jamaica and Haiti, along with shows in Los Angeles and London.
The doc screens at the RPL Theatre Thursday Dec. 17 and Saturday Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., Friday Dec. 18 at 9 p.m., and Sunday Dec. 20 at 2:30 p.m. Here’s the trailer:
