In June, Saskatchewan ceramic artist Zane Wilcox made national headlines when he was one of five artists named as a finalist for the RBC Emerging Artist People’s Choice Award. Wilcox has been practicing as an artist since 2002, and has built a pretty solid reputation for himself in the Saskatchewan art/craft community.
Wilcox obtained an MFA from the University of Regina in 2012, and on Thursday Sept. 17 there’s an opening reception for a new show of ceramic sculpture at Mata Gallery which is located at 106-2300 Broad St. The reception is from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and Stripes & Grids will be on display at the gallery until Oct. 17.
To give you a sense of what Wilcox’s work is like, here’s a video tied to the RBC award that was produced in association with a show at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto where work by all five nominees was on display.
