Born and raised in rural England, Sheeran released his first EP at the ripe old age of 14 in 2005. After spending a couple of years in London, he moved to Los Angeles in 2010 where he played a lot of open mike gigs until catching the ear of actor Jamie Foxx who apparently offered him the use of his recording studio.
Through videos on YouTube, Sheeran built a fan-base that, in addition to Foxx, also included Elton John and Taylor Swift. In 2011 he released his first studio album called +. He followed that up with a second release x in 2014.
When not in studio he’s toured with John and Swift, performed at the 2012 London Olympics and also garnered nominations for the Brit Awards and the Grammy Awards.
On Saturday June 13 Sheeran will be in town to play an arena show at Brandt Centre. The back-up act Rixton should hit the stage at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $89. You can find out more on the Brandt website. And to give you a sense of what to expect, here’s Sheeran’s video for his latest single “Thinking Out Loud”
