There’s a couple of classic musicals being presented by local theatre groups starting tomorrow.
At the Globe Theatre, it’s Mary Poppins which is inspired by the P.L. Travers stories and the Disney film, with additional songs and music by George Stiles and Anthony Drew and further creative input from British uber-producer Cameron Mackintosh. You can find out more about the production, and get ticket info, on the Globe website. The play runs from May 20 to June 14.
Starting the same night, and running until May 24, Regina Lyric Musical Theatre is presenting the one-act musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The musical sees six students with plenty of personality quirks compete for the title of spelling bee champ in a contest run by some equally quirky adults.
The performances go at Saskatchewan Express Musical Theatre Studio (2272 Pasqua), May 20-23 at 7:30 p.m., and May 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets are Adults $31.50, Student $21.50, and more information can be obtained by calling 306-522-7556.
