Directed by Ingrid Veninger, who has been described as the “reigning queen of DIY cinema” in Toronto, this films sees a drama teacher in his mid-30s who is struggling at home to cope with the death of his wife and the challenge of being a single parent, propose a unique experiment for his students. One in which they dress up in mascot-style costumes and behave as “animals” in the real world.

The Animal Project screens Thursday Aug. 7 at 7 p.m., and Friday Aug. 8 at 9 p.m. at the RPL Theatre. Here’s the trailer:
