Ainsley Friessen released her first album in 1998. It was called Scattered…Inspired and set the tone for her subsequent career in music with its introspective lyrics and unique blend of influences: jazz, classical and folk.
Friessen’s travelled a lot over those years, but she’s kept Winnipeg as a home base. And she’s been teaming up with musicians there quite a bit lately to perform and record. Friday, July 4, Friessen is in town to play a show at Creative City Centre (1843). Fellow Winnipeg recording artist Bobbi Stahr shares the bill. Doors are at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $10. [We received word from CCC that the show had to be cancelled due to “unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances” ]
To give you a sense of what to expect, here’s video from last year of her and musicians Alan Owen (violin), Gilles Fournier (bass) and Brendan Nagle (drums) performing “Don’t Let the World Make You Mean”:
