I did a post in November about this local singer-songwriter who garnered a nomination for Young Performer of the Year at the 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards in Calgary. Mclean didn’t take home the hardware that night, but it was undoubtedly a pretty big honour to be nominated.
Wednesday night marks another milestone in McLean’s career when he releases his debut full-length Drama in the Attic. The album was recorded at Touchwood Studios in Regina, and features an array of guest musicians including Chris Prpich (Lonesome Weekends), Jakob Geifenhagen (childhood friend and musical collaborator), Allan Muirhead (Mclean’s uncle) and Robert Mclean (his dad). Among the instruments that make guest appearances are the tuba, clarinet, trombone, accordian and trumpet.
The CD launch is being held at the Artful Dodger (1631 11th Ave.) and will feature an opening set by Susu Robin. Doors are at 7 p.m., and the show should get going at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.
You can find out more about Mclean via his website, and after this show he’ll be heading to Toronto in May for a showcase as part of Canadian Music Week. To give you a taste of what to expect tomorrow night here’s the video for the first single off Drama in the Attic “Headful of Diamonds”:
