Short-listed for the 2013 Polaris Prize for their second album Nation II Nation, this Ottawa-based trio is one of the hottest things going in Canadian music. The three members (Bear Witness, DJ Shub and DJ NDN) are of First Nations ancestry, and they offer a unique blend of traditional drumming and singing and contemporary dance and electronica.
“Powwow step” is one term that’s been used to describe their music. Tuesday they’re in town to play a show at the Exchange as part of the Regina Folk Festival Concert Series. Doors are at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $15 advance and $20 door. And more information can be had by calling 306-525-6400.
A Tribe Called Red’s appearance in town is linked with the 2014 Storytellers Festival that Sakewewak Artists’ Collective is presenting Feb. 16-21. The annual festival includes a mix of traditional storytelling, music, dance, film, comedy, and even a bus tour with artist Cheryl L’Hirondelle.
