Born in Saskatchewan, Nadine Sures is now a Montreal/Beirut-based artist. Friday and Saturday she’ll be in town to present the performance Mourning Mavka at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. The work blends video, music and installation, and explores the idea of ritual and collective memory as it relates to landmark moments in life like marriage and death.

The performance will be held at the MacKenzie’s Shumiatcher Theatre at 8 p.m. both nights. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. To give you a sense of what the work is like here’s a short excerpt:
