Strolling down Rose St. this morning heading north between 12th and 11th Ave. I noticed the above sign posted mid-block. It would seem to indicate that the surface parking lot located on the north-east corner of Rose and 12th is in jeopardy of being lost. The long-standing rumour, I believe, is that SGI will be moving into a new office building on the site.
Currently, SGI occupies a 20-storey tower at Lorne and 11th. The proposed office building on Rose would have 16 floors and 440,000 sq. ft. of space. One motivating factor for SGI to move is the deteriorating state of its existing tower. It’s also been said that it’s looking for a building with a larger floor plate to avoid having departments spread over multiple floors.
As for the hot-button issue of parking in downtown Regina, Agriculture Place, which is to be built on 18 block Hamilton, will have three levels of underground parking. At an infomation session held a few weeks ago, Harvard Developments indicated that the underground parkade would be open to the public for paid parking outside of business hours 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Friday. I would expect the Rose St. building would also be required to have underground parking. Although whether it would be open to the public in a similar fashion is another matter.
