The finalists in the Gibson’s CFL Player Awards have been announced. In the West division, five of the six nominees are from the Calgary Stampeders. The only non-Stamp is Rider Brendon LaBatte (pictured) in the offensive lineman category. The results seem a little skewed, but when you look at the players who got the nod from Calgary it’s hard to argue with any of them.
In the East, the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have two nominees each, while the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Montreal Alouettes have one nominee each.
The awards will be doled out at a gala ceremony at Conexus Arts Centre on Nov. 21. And here’s a complete list of the finalists and a TSN report:
Most Outstanding: Jon Cornish (Calgary RB) vs. Ricky Ray (Toronto QB).
Canadian: Jon Cornish (Calgary RB) vs. Henoc Muamba (Winnipeg LB).
Defensive Player: Charleston Hughes (Calgary DE) vs. Chip Cox (Montreal LB).
Offensive Lineman: Brendon LaBatte (Saskatchewan) vs. Jeff Keeping (Toronto).
Special Teams: Rene Paredes (Calgary PK) vs. Marc Beswick (Hamilton DB).
Rookie: Brett Jones (Calgary OL) vs. CJ Gable (Hamilton RB)
