Based in Montreal, Leif Vollebekk is a roots orientated singer-songwriter. In March, he released his second full-length album North Americana. In the review I wrote I gave it three out of five prairie dogs. It’s generally a sombre, sparsely arranged disc whose dominant theme, as identified by me anyway, is a lament for the decline of heartland America. “As we’ve romanticized it,” I further wrote, “it’s a compelling place. In real life though … not so much.”
Tonight Vollebekk is in town to play a show at the Artful Dodger. Things should get going around 8 p.m. and tickets are $15. To give you a taste of his latest album here’s video of him performing “When The Subway Comes Above The Ground” on CBC Radio’s Q in March:
