Awning IIPolice have yet to be contacted, but there’s apparently been a rash of mysterious awning removals in downtown Regina. The historic Willoughby & Duncan building on the F.W. Hill Mall was one recent target, with five awnings disappearing seemingly overnight.

The building is located across the pedestrian mall from our office, and we were naturally curious as to what was up. We’re mere hours into our investigation, but the only rumour we’ve been able to uncover thus far relates to the possibility of some unknown entity beginning to surreptitiously accumulate material to use down the road in constructing a canvas-reinforced roof for the new $278 million “roof-ready” stadium that is scheduled to be built on the Exhibition grounds in the next few years. We’ll have more on this story as further details emerge.
