No pick of the day today. Instead, here’s a heads up about the Lt. Governor’s Arts Awards which will be happening in Regina on Sept. 25. This is an annual event, with individuals and organizations who are active in the arts in the province being recognized. If you click on this link you’ll find a list of the different award categories and who the nominees are this year.
Also being honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award is Saskatoon author Guy Vanderhaeghe (pictured). I spoke with him recently for an article we have planned for the Sept. 19 Fall Arts and Culture Guide, and he offered these thoughts:
“Sometimes these awards seem like double-edged swords. As a lifetime achievement award it may suggest that I’m being delivered a message that it’s time to quit. I don’t know. But it’s a recognition of what’s now approaching 40 years of work. It’s very satisfying especially considering all the distinguished artists who have previously received the award. I’m enormously pleased to be included in that company.”
The Lt. Governor’s Arts Awards are being held at Conexus Arts Centre on Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $100, or $35 for self-declared artists, and can be obtained by calling 1-866-644-7673 (ext. 3)
