Not a conventional pick of the day, admittedly, but what makes this game between two middle of the pack AL East Central teams that goes tonight at Target Field in Minneapolis special is that it will be the home debut of rookie Twins pitcher Andrew Albers (pictured).
Last Tuesday, you may recall, Albers generated headlines throughout the baseball world with a stellar major league debut against the Kansas City Royals pitching 8 1/3 innings of four-hit ball enroute to a 7-0 victory.
And what makes this story especially notable from a Saskatchewan perspective is that Albers hails from North Battleford. When he took the mound in Kansas City last Tuesday, the 27-year-old left-hander became the first Saskatchewan-born player since Terry Puhl in 1991 to play in a major league baseball game.
