Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss have always made a killer pair. The first is a guy with a sweet side, a voice close to Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips and a crunchy guitar style well suited to his post-psych merrymaking. Weiss, at times of Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, is one of the best drummers out there, a player who’s presence is always felt and always feels necessary.
The duo’s back, and this time with a double album. Mole City is coming out on October 1 on Kill Rock Stars. All 24 tracks of it. Pitchfork’s hosting a new track off the record: “You Can Stay But You Got to Go”. It keeps all the Quasi hallmarks, like Coomes’ unique lyrical perspective and some big distortion. So, all welcome things.
