Regina RiotI’m not sure if there’s any plans for the Lingerie Football League to play a second season in Saskatchewan. Outside of a press release a few months ago about how the league was trying to legitimize its image as a true sports league by de-emphasizing some of the more salacious promotion that typically accompanies lingerie football, we’ve heard nothing from the league head office in Las Vegas.

Regina’s other female football team is still functioning though. Sunday at Leibel Field at 11 a.m. the Regina Riot will kick off its third season in the nine-team Western Women’s Canadian Football League with a game against the Winnipeg Nomads-Wolfpack. Here’s a link to a season preview that the Leader-Post did on Friday.

If you check it out, you’ll see that there’s a women’s world tackle football championship scheduled for Finland in July so the 2013 WWCFL season will be somewhat compressed. The Riot will play their second, and final, home game of the season against their arch-rivals from Saskatoon the Valkyries on May 12 at 1 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium. Following that game, the Riot will play two games on the road: May 19 in Winnipeg against the Manitoba Fearless and May 26 against the Valkyries in Saskatoon.
