With final exams winding down at the University of Regina, fourth-year students who are poised to graduate from the Department of Film are holding two screenings of their latest short films at the Artesian (2637 13th Ave.) on April 26-27 (doors at 6:30 p.m., show at 7 p.m.)
According to a press release our office received, with the demise of the Film Employment Tax Credit last spring and subsequent gutting of the provincial film industry, students this year were able to draw on some resources that in previous years wouldn’t have been available to them. So the production value of this year’s crop of films should be particularly high.
Resources credited in the press release include cinematographer Layton Burton, the film co-op Echolands Creative Group, Talking Dog Studio and the local actor’s union ACTRA Saskatchewan.
Admission to the Friday and Saturday night screenings is by donation. Proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for two Scott Collegiate students to participate in the annual SaskFilm Camp hosted by the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative.
