No pick of the day today. Instead, here’s advance notice of a festival that’s being co-hosted by the Saskatchewan Filmpool and Dunlop Art Gallery April 6-7. It arose out of a residency that Chrystene Ells held over the last year or so that involved different aspects of puppet craft. The festival features two evening screenings at the RPL Theatre. Saturday night 15 shorts by Saskatchewan artists will be shown. Sunday night, there will be a screening of Heather Henson’s curated series of international films titled Handmade Puppet Dreams.

Both shows will be from 7-9 p.m. with regular admission prices in effect. Following the April 6 screening there will be a reception at the Dunlop, then after the April 7 screening there will be a wind-up party at the Filmpool (301-1822 Scarth). For more information on the festival call 306-757-8818.

In addition to the evening screenings, there will also be several afternoon events. April 6 from 1-2 p.m. there will be a screening of animated shorts from the National Film Board. That will be followed by a workshop on shadow puppets called Bumps In The Night that will run from 2:15-3:30 p.m. Both events will be held at the RPL Theatre, and more information can be obtained by calling 306-777-6040.

On Sunday there’s an artist talk and workshop on hand puppets at RPL Theatre. The talk by Ells and Berny Hi is at 2 p.m., with the workshop running from 2:30-4 p.m. Again,  info can be obtained by calling 306-777-6040.

To close, here’s a trailer that shows different films that are included in Handmade Puppet Dreams:
