Even though David Bowie latest record -“The Next Day”- is somewhat underwhelming, a couple of songs are above average: The opening single “Where Are We Now?” and the follow up, “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)”. The latter one comes with a nifty video by Floria Sigismondi (responsible for Marilyn Manson’s instant classic “The Beautiful People”), starring Bowie and Oscar winner Tilda Swinton.
Bowie and Swinton have exploited their androgynous look through most of their careers. Get them together and play with their genders is a natural place to go, so to speak. Of all the striking imagery, a particular sequence stays with you: David and Tilda acting their age, as a retired couple. Enjoy them while you can.
