We had our first substantial snowfall this winter (with some freezing rain mixed in) on Nov. 1.
When you do the math, that means we’re three months into winter. And if it truly is just the mid-point of the season, as the name of this annual Celtic festival suggests, that means winter won’t end this year until February, March, Apr… oh shit. Really? May 1?
Oh well, hope that’s not the case. Because that would suck. Although not as much as if the Mid-Winter Blues Festival (which goes Feb. 28-March 1) turns out to be the truly prophetic climate gauge. Because that would mean we’d be talking winter until the end of June. And that would really suck.
To kick this ceildih off, there’s free daytime entertainment at the Cornwall Centre from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and at O’Hanlon’s Pub from noon-4 p.m. The latter, being in a pub, is restricted to revellers 19 +. The actual ceildih will be held tonight at the SCES Exchange and Club. Featured entertainment includes Troy MacGillivray & Friends, the City of Regina Pipe Band and more. Tickets are $20.
To give you a taste, here’s video from 2010 featuring MacGillivray and fellow fiddler Kimberley Fraser:
