Despite Saskatchewan not having much any more in the way of a viable film industry, students at the University of Regina continue to study the art form. And March 1-2, the University of Regina Film and Video Students’ Society is hosting this film festival which typically showcases student work from across Canada and sometimes even internationally.
The screenings both days are being held at the Shu-Box Theatre at Riddell Centre between 4 and 10 p.m., and an awards’ gala is planned for the Lazy Owl on Saturday night. The screenings are free, while tickets to the gala are $10 adv. and $12 door. Here’s a link to the website for more info.
And the reason I’m posting this today is because at 8 p.m. tonight at the Shu-Box the festival kicks off with a premiere screening for a new Saskatchewan film called 13 Eerie that was directed by Lowell Dean. It’s a drama with a bit of an undead theme, and after the screening there will be a Q&A with Dean and the special effects make-up artist Emerson Ziffle. Here’s the trailer:
