The other day Prairie Dog publisher Terry Morash and I met with the Cathedral Village Arts Festival people at the Neighbourhod Centre on 13th Ave. to start planning for the annual guide that we produce with them for the arts festival.
This year, the CVAF runs May 20-25, and the theme is Roots & Wings which reflects the strong ties that individual artists who live in Cathedral have with the community and the focus in 2013 on younger artists being mentored by more established artists.
Before the festival takes place, obviously, a lot of work has to be done. A solid chunk of it at the CVAF is done by volunteers. But expenses have to be met. So on Saturday, February 2 the CVAF committee and other community partners are hosting Taste of Cathedral at the Italian Club (Connaught & 13th Ave., west of Lewvan Dr.)
The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. and features gourmet tastings from Cathedral area restaurants and other food-related businesses. There’s also a silent auction of items supplied by neighbourhood artists and retailers, a cash bar and live music by Tahnis Cunningham & Ray Bell.
Tickets are $20 and proceeds go to support the 2013 Cathedral Village Arts Festival. Tickets are available at Argento Jewellery (2728 13th) and Dessart Sweets (3036 13th).
