Instead here’s a heads up about the first performance in Magdance 2 which is a collaborative production series being presented by the MacKenzie Art Gallery and New Dance Horizons. The first Magdance was held in the winter and spring of 2011, and involved the installation of a dance floor and bleacher seats in the Kenderdine gallery at the MacKenzie.
A similar arrangement has been made this time, and this performance will feature Fujiwara Dance Inventions from Toronto. The company’s artistic director is Denise Fujiwara who has been a professional dance artist and choreographer for over three decades. She’s of Japanese heritage, so elements of Butoh often appear in her work. For this stop in Regina, the company will be performing two pieces: No Exit and Lost and Found. The former is a trio inspired by a 1944 play by French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre about three people who are being punished in the afterlife by being locked in a room together for all eternity, while the latter is a solo work exploring ideas of loss, discovery and attachment.
The performances go at the MacKenzie Gallery Jan. 10 at 1:30 p.m. and Jan. 11-12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are Adults $25, Students & Seniors $20, with the Jan. 10 Matinee costing $15.
