Here’s a link to a NBC story about an apparent trap that was set for volunteer firefighters this morning in the community of Webster, New York on the shores of Lake Ontario. When they arrived at the scene of a house fire in their vehicles, someone opened fire with a gun, killing two of them and wounding two others. A SWAT team responded, and according to the report the suspected shooter is now dead as well from a gunshot wound.
In commenting on the shooting New York governor Mario Cuomo had this to say:
All of our thoughts and prayers go to the families and friends of those who were killed in this senseless act of violence. New York’s first responders are true heroes as they time and again selflessly rush toward danger in order to keep our families and communities safe.
And here’s a link to a CBC article that describes more fallout from the press conference in Washington on Friday where NRA chief Wayne LaPierre advocated placing armed guards in every school in the United States to keep children safe from gun violence .
