Classical music with an indie rock twist. That’s probably the best way to describe this avant garde Montreal string quartet. Founded Pemi Paull and John Corban in 2007, the group has performed music by the likes of Richard Reed Parry (bassist for Grammy Award-winning Arcade Fire) Bryce Dessner (guitarist for The National) and klezmer rapper Socalled.
One of their better known concert pieces is Parry’s Quartet for Breath and Heart. To perform it, the musicians each wear a stethoscope and play in time to the beat of their heart and their respiration rate.
On Friday Warhol Dervish will be in town to play a show at the Artful Dodger. Carl Johnson of Library Voices fame will be the opening act. Doors are at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $10 adv. and $15 door.
